My most exciting and extreme learning experience was out of school and out of country. I went on a class trip to the southern part of France where I had to speak French "to survive". My teacher at the time did refuse to do any talking for us and just let us experiment. I learned by trying, failing, and trying again, and I learned because I wanted to. I chose to go on the trip because I already knew that I learn best when I speak and am immersed in the language. That was the best experience because I learned about myself and my abilities.
A similar thing is happening here this weekend. We are being immersed in a topic and we are learning on our own and with each other. It doesn't seem like my brain will hold all this information, but I think we all will be surprised on how much we will take away from this. I think we were given all the tools and resources to succeed.

Ms. Natasha; First of all, I really admire your ability to jump in to any language (including Globaloria) so wholeheartedly. --Talk about no fear! Do not be discouraged if everything does not work on your first try. I am no expert, but I have learned so of the greatest things by being thrown into the deep end of the pool. There is no greater experience than overcoming being put out of our "comfort zone".
ReplyDeleteHow true this is ... to be immmersed into something either voluntarily or involuntarily creates a learning experience that many times is more valuable than any "teacher-prepared" lesson. I agree with you as someone who has had some experience with the Globaloria program that you will be surprised at the knowledge you will take away from these workshops and also from the experiences you will have in your own classroom.
