"Trust, trust in the world, because this human being exists--that is the most inward achievement of the relation in education. Because this human being exists, meaninglessness, however hard pressed you are by it, cannot be the real thruth. Because this human being exists, in the darkness the light lies hidden, in fear salvation, and in the callousness of one's fellowman the great love."(Martin Buber)

I found this quote in one of my text books and I wanted to share it with everyone that wants to read it. I read it and it made me feel upbeat and hopeful.

Motivation

Motivating students seems to be easy when they hear that this class is about blogging and the wiki. Once the class starts into imagining the game and researching the topic it becomes harder to stay motivated. This is when my lead educators and I help our students connect the research to their own lives. When students see the connection to the real world, and that they can gain an advantage from knowing their rights and responsibilities as American citizens, they become more motivated.

This year we need to find ways to motivate them to design their games. We will be able to show them examples of what other students have done. This might show them that other students their age did it before them and they can be successful too.

New Year, Less Fear (talking about flash)

What to do differently or better in the NEW YEAR? I will get back to work and start learning more for myself. I took a little break after graduation and just worked and tried to reduce my stress. Now I am ready to get back to my college classes and work my brain a little more intensely. My resolution is that I will become more than a novice in flash and my team will finish the game.

I don't have a problem with blogging and I really like playing and working on the wiki. Flash seemed to be my enemy last year and I hope it will become more familiar and less threatening as we are going along and designing more mini games with our girls. I am glad that I have Melonie and Dionne at work who can help me, and Ingrida and tech support just an email away. I just have to reach out and get the help and get into the action scripting.

So Much Information And So Little Time!

I have been working on my wiki page and my blog. I read several student's blogs and commented on some of them. Then I found some quotes and songs I liked and got all ADHD. Once I start working on the computer it becomes so hard for me to work on one project at a time. I start on one site - skip to the next - think about something else and search for it - want to listen to some music - and finally go back where I began. This keeps it from getting boring, but makes it hard to concentrate as well. It is no wonder that children that grew up with the internet don't feel like reading text books and just being lectured. The internet and technology will give them a choice of how much and how fast they learn. They will be in control, but we will have to guide them.
Welcome to the future of learning!

A Learning Experience!

My most exciting and extreme learning experience was out of school and out of country. I went on a class trip to the southern part of France where I had to speak French "to survive". My teacher at the time did refuse to do any talking for us and just let us experiment. I learned by trying, failing, and trying again, and I learned because I wanted to. I chose to go on the trip because I already knew that I learn best when I speak and am immersed in the language. That was the best experience because I learned about myself and my abilities.

A similar thing is happening here this weekend. We are being immersed in a topic and we are learning on our own and with each other. It doesn't seem like my brain will hold all this information, but I think we all will be surprised on how much we will take away from this. I think we were given all the tools and resources to succeed.
